Gift&Color box material and surface treatment introduction
* Face Paper; Inside Paper
1.Paper size:
International standard: 889*1194mm; China standard: 787*1092mm; how to cut big sheet paper into small pieces. See attached picture.
2.Paper type:
a. Coated art paper: It is Pure Wood Pulp paper. The normal type is 157g. It can be printed 4 colors or spot color. Also can be embossed, while not obvious. Better use 200g paper for embossed purpose. Hot stamping & bronzing, silk screen is OK. If want double side printing, can use double side coated art paper. This mainly used for publicity materials or calendars.
b. White/Ivory card: It is Pure Wood Pulp paper. As it is thick, not to used for face paper. If customer need embossed effect, can use 230g white card. For hand paper bag making, normally using 230g and 250g. Seldom use 300g, as too thick, hard to fold.
c. Metal foiled paper: silver/gold color foiled paper is normally used 250g and 300g white board; coated art paper and Ivory card can be also used for this metal foiled paper. Gold color foiled paper has two types. One is the pure aluminum layer, which is suitable for offset printing ; another one is Aluminum vacuum plating film, suitable for silk screen.
d. Fancy Paper: gift box most commonly used 120g; as fancy paper has many surface treatment. This made the fancy paper hard to print. If the surface is smooth, still can be printed. The fancy paper easy to be influenced for the moisture from the air and get crinkled edge. Then the defective rate for printing will be higher for 30-50 pcs / onetime printing. Plus the fancy paper lack of flexibility, fragile, cannot add matt or gloss membrane; it tend to be broken at the turning area.
e. Wood-free printed paper: Mainly used for book printing, and inside paper for gift box. The weight is about 50-120g. The books is always using paper about 80g.
f. SBS Paperboard(Solid Bleached Sulfate),white board(WLC): It contains certain rate of wood pulp. And coated with layer of white power. It has two common type: one side white & another grey; or two side white. The weight will be about 250g-400g. 50g is one level of grade to increase. Single white board (WLC) is used to make whine box and hand paper bag. Double side white board is used for lid and base box. Price lower than Ivory card.
*Inside material
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF):
The thickness as 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 2.8mm, 3.0mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm,4.75mm… ; using MDF need to open V-cut; better not to use with fancy paper. As the MDF need to cut piece by piece, open V-cut, need to clear and use hot melt glue. The cost will higher than grey board.
Grey Board:
Thickness as 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 1.8mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm. If thickness more than 3.0mm, can be custom-made. Grey board can also open V-cut. Grey board can be cut by machine, with higher efficiency than MDF.
Checkered plate:
It is special made board, with density higher than grey board. It can open V-cut. Price higher than MDF.
* Printing
Printing machine:
Single color, 2 Two color, 4 color, 5 color, 6 color printing machine. Can print CMYK, single pantone color, gold, silver, UV etc.
Printing charge:
Qty within 5K, will charge based on set up cost. If Qty more than 5K, the printing cost will be based on how many color the box will be printed, the more color, the cost will be higher. If print gold or silver, the cost will be based on the area.
UV printing is used for Metal foiled paper. As this paper is special, cannot use common paint.
* Laminating
There are matt and gloss lamination, common thickness is 0.18 and 0.15mm. BOPP precoating film is used for Metal foiled paper.
* Die Cutting
Common max die cutting size is: 76*108cm. If size bigger than that, will not suitable for die cutting process.
